And Now, the End is Near...

Well, folks, that’s it, curtain down on 92 High Street. And what a ride it’s been! Late Night Art was an absolute belter, and if there was ever any doubt about the hunger for creativity in Bangor, it’s well and truly been put to rest. Rain, wind, or shine (okay, mostly rain), people turned out in force, proving that this town, sorry, city, is bursting with artistic energy, just waiting to be properly supported.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: if Bangor wants to be a true city of culture, it needs to step up. That means funding, proper events, and actual investment in its creative community. You can’t just slap a fancy title on a place and expect magic to happen, art needs space, time, and support to thrive. Or, failing that, we could always just bring back the old sea wall, joking (but not really). 😂

The appetite is there. The proof? A soggy Thursday night packed with people eager to soak in some culture. And here’s the thing, those artists you saw on the tour? They’re not just there for one night. They’re in their studios every single day, doing what they do best. So don’t just show up when there’s an event, keep that support going!

As for me, my time on High Street has come to an end. It’s a brilliant street, full of proper grafters who believe in what they do. The footfall is still slow, but the businesses that make it work are the ones that run on appointments, and that’s the way forward. I’ve had an absolute blast, shifted a heap of artwork (including the Gerry & Julie original, what a privilege!), and made some class connections. But at some point, you have to step back and say: enough shopkeeping, more art!

I’m still about, of course. You can catch me at Thornleigh shops (just look for the Ghostbusters station 👻), and my online shop is still ticking along nicely. And don’t worry, there’s plenty more artistic nonsense coming your way soon. So, as always, keep on keeping on, support your local artists, and let’s make sure Bangor’s creative scene gets the love it deserves.

Pops x

P.S. Massive thanks to Wayne Papas Mineral Company and Councillor Blaney for having the foresight to back this madness. Legends!
