‘The Fairytale of Bangor’

In Memory of Gerald & Julie Meighan

Gerald and Julie Meighan have been among the most requested figures for a mural whenever I’ve asked for suggestions. To honour their memory and the community’s connection to them, I decided to create a large piece, opting for a standalone tribute rather than placing it on a wall.

As someone who grew up in Bangor, I knew of Gerry and Julie, and, truthfully, they intimidated me a little. They struggled with alcoholism, a challenge that shaped their lives and personalities, making them both quirky and boisterous at times. Their journey included many run-ins with the law, and they often felt like antiheroes in our town’s story. Yet, from listening to countless tales—both good and bad—it seems that, deep down, they had kind hearts and good intentions.

This piece may be less about celebrating the chaos they brought and more about preserving a memory of a bygone era. It’s a way to give Gerry & Julie a place in Bangor’s history and spark conversation among younger generations about who they were and what they represented 😊 

‘GERRY & JULIE’, measuring 184cm x 111cm this piece was unreal to create. From the start I shared the post with the Bangor community and to have them share their stories, write on the board and offer me words of support was so motivating. I was also gobsmacked when two of my Art heroes came down to show their support and sign the board. Colin Davidson with his wealth of portrait experience and Terry Bradley who is a household brand in himself. What a moment 💪🏼

My limited edition runs are high-quality, Hahnemuehle 310gsm German Etching prints. Produced on white art paper made from 100% alpha-cellulose is characterised by its extraordinary velvety tactile feel and its fine clearly defined felt structure. The unique surface texture adds a very special touch to images, showcasing them in all their splendour with impressive three-dimensional effect and depth To top it all off, they are signed and hand-numbered by myself.

Rolled limited edition prints are dispatched first class, recorded delivery, in strong postal tubes and must be signed for upon receipt.
